Product description
This is an original oil painting on a small box canvas. It was inspired by sketches I made on a train journey through the Scottish Highlands in June 2006. At one point, the sun was low and casting strong contrasts onto peaks far off in the distance - while the colours weren't as extreme as what's been painted here, it was still pretty striking, and I wanted to capture that almost-abstract quality of stark contrast between setting sunlight and shadows. I'm very happy with the result! The painting is on a box canvas and I have 'stretched' the colours over the edges, so the painting covers all four sides of the box as well as the main face - see the photos here to see what I mean. The paint is quite thick - I've intentionally made the brushstrokes quite visible, partly to suggest a certain texture on the landscape. Despite the small size, the bright colours and sharp lines make it an eye-catching and evocative piece of art. I have also given this painting a lovely coat of professional gloss varnish, giving it a wonderful shine as well as protection - it is in perfect condition for hanging directly onto a wall. Oils on canvas, 10cm x 7.5cm x 3.6cm (3.9" x 3" x 1.4")
