This is a christening robe, which allows much free space for personal associations for an old ritual:
the baby rests between two great stylized leaves. The leaves are open on the sides - like pockets - to be filled with gifts, wishes or any materials of the season.
The shift dress is made of bourette silk, the leaves are organza silk
