Signed "Japan". Perfect condition. Simulated pearls from "Japan" were popular in the 1940s-1950s. In the past and in some circles, a low regard for Japan jewelry was due to the fact that after WW II labor in Japan was cheap, and so the jewelry was inexpensive and put out in large quantities. But we must realize that most of this jewelry is hand strung in such an array of designs that rarely are two Japan necklaces found exactly alike. Vintage Japanese costume jewelry is very well made, far better than most contemporary "fashion jewelry".

What is "vintage"? Vintage is a generic term for new or second hand garments, costume jewelry and objects made in the XX century, precisely between 1920s and 1980s. Everything that was produced before the 1920s is referred to as antique; production after 1980s is called modern or contemporary, not vintage. Most of vintage items are pre-owned and used, but there is a small percentage of pieces found in warehouses (the so called "new-old stock") or forgotten at home in their pristine condition, some of them with their original tags.
