Imperial Part Five - Original Collage
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This original collage is part five of a six part collage on paper. Each collage is made up of the same items and then attached to paper using my sewing machine and red thread.
The items in this collage are:
Red cotton fabric
A page from a Russian novel
Beige/gold tissue paper
Grid paper
A diagram from a engineering book
A page from an old book of music
I love creating collages with limited items in groups and coming up with the right composition. The sewing machine is the perfect way to attach the paper and fabric as I am able to get another line and texture and it is a lot cleaner than glue.
Stitching has been a big part of my artwork since I completed my Fine Art Degree in 2001 and I enjoy the line work achieved by a sewing machine. I enjoy making these collages and finding interesting fabrics, paper and sections of my own artwork to create the piece. I spend a lot of time thinking about the composition of the work and how each piece is related to one another.
