All the Instruments available are hand made by me from FSC sourced timber. Included with the Instrument is a free protective bag, a strap and some picks. Copy and paste this link into your address bar to listen to a demo of this instrument on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9IAx6klJag This Instrument is made from South American bloodwood which has rich red colour. The body has Walnut bindings, a brass tail piece (also made by me) with a strap button. This Instrument also has a Pick-up built in, this allows you to plug in to am amplifier. The sound hole is also finished with Walnut. The neck is made from Maple and features a Rosewood fretboard with real mother of pearl inlay dots. What is a Gig Stickr? The idea for my Gig Stick is a cross between a cigar box guitar and a Dulcimer. It has a fully fretted, full scale guitar style Chromatic neck and is tuned to D-a-d, but what does this mean? This means you have the flexibility of a normal guitar neck with the sound of one of my Stick Dulcimers (if you look at a Dulcimer neck you will see there are less frets) . Being tuned to a open D chord means it is a lot easy to play that a normal guitar. You can bar all 3 strings with one finger on any fret and it will sound correct. It can be used to play melodies and lead parts by playing individual strings as well as playing chords. It really is a versatile Instrument ideal for beginners or people looking for the next step on from a Stick Dulcimer and experienced musicians alike.
There are very few instruments that are similar to this, It was my own design and is a combination of one of my Stick Dulcimers and a Cigar Box 3 string guitar. One thing I wanted to achieve with my Instruments is to make them a real, playable instrument. Most of the other instruments that are similar to mine are very simply made, have a very thin, boxy sound and are usually not finished very well. I wanted mine to be made like a acoustic guitar is made. Some of the features I include are the use of Exotic woods, fully bracing and lining inside the instrument, making the top, sides and back separately and keeping them as thin as possible (1.5 - 2mm!) having a separate rosewood fingerboard, having a proper brass tail piece like a mandolin. Finishing them with lacquer and probably the most important feature is the sound. My instruments are slightly larger than others, this gives you a fuller, richer sound with good low end for an instrument of this size and clear and crisp treble. The Dulcimer is traditionally a folk instrument and it works well as one, but, It it also work well in more mainstream musical styles. The sound of my Gig Stick Instruments depart from the flat boxy sound associated with instruments like this and give you a fuller, richer sound that will go with almost anything!
