Small Linen Basket with Dutch Folk Costume - P8 Accessories & Button ArtThis linen basket is inspired by my own Dutch heritage. Volendam is a village in the province of Noord-Holland in The Netherlands. The Volendam costume is outside Holland often represented as the national costume, with the white lace winged-cap that got exaggerated over time. The male costume is characterized by the typical wide woollen fishermen trousers. I cross-stitched a tiny couple from Volendam and hand-stitched it on pure linen; the linen is from a very rarely used unbleached linen tablecloth. Then I sewed a little basket or bowl from the linen, made it stiff with some webbing and lined it with a black and white traditional Dutch cotton fabric (my own bed-clothes are still made from this fabric). Fill it with some sewing thread bobbins, or left-over buttons, or some delicious Dutch treat; possibilities are endless ! Payment can be done by Paypal and within the EU also by direct bank transfer. Details on request.
