An original oil painting that wraps around a box canvas, this is a lovely piece of work that looks great hanging on a wall yet compact enough to grace a desk or perch on top of a monitor. This painting is based on a larger painting of a drawing I made whilst on the Isle of Skye in June 2006, watching some billowing cloud fronts catching sunlight against a bright blue sky.

For this painting, I first painted the blue sky, using oil paint mixed with linseed oil to produce a very glossy finish, brushstrokes blending together to give the impression of light streaming diagonally down from above. Once this had dried (the large amount of linseed oil meant this stayed wet for weeks) I was able to work on the clouds, making use of
layers of paint to produce texture and accentuate the contrast between clouds and sky. Although the scale of the artwork is small, many hours have gone into getting it just right, especially building-up and blending the thick layers of paint in the clouds.

I'm extremely happy with the finished piece, the brush strokes on the clouds giving them a sense of billowing movement, while the blue sky above has an amazing gloss finish even though the painting hasn't been varnished yet. The piece is painted on canvas stretched over a wooden frame, with the painting 'wrapping' around all four sides, (see the pictures shown here) which means this artwork is absolutely ideal for going straight on the wall with no need for framing, while the small size makes it ideal for a wide range of locations.
