Coney Island - NYC photo/graffiti/paint on canvas - The raw artThis is an original mixed media piece done by THE RAW ART; it's basically photography and paint. It's not that simple though: "photography" means taking the actual pictures, manipulating them if needed, doing the photomontage, and the photo transfer technique which puts the ink from the developed/printed photo into the canvas. The "paint" part, depending on the piece, may includes spray paint, acrylic, homemade ink and oil based paint, usually for the graffitis and tags, as well as for the backgrounds, and sometimes also on top of the collage to add a sense of a multi-layer design. It's most of the times done over regular paper or news paper, and its transferred to the canvas after the "mix" is done. Each canvas is finally coated with a hand of glossy varnish protecting them as well as giving a "brushed" texture to the piece. All of the pieces are signed & dated by the artist.
