    Learn More About Birthday Cards

Consider the recipient’s personality and interests when choosing the type of happy birthday card you’d like to give. A jokester will chuckle over a funny birthday card and hold onto it for a good laugh. A music lover will be delighted and surprised by a musically inspired birthday card.

If you’d prefer to put it in your own words, work with an artist on Etsy to create a custom birthday card. Or, create a handmade birthday card from scratch with cardstock, calligraphy markers, and one of the many birthday card templates available in the small shops on Etsy.

You don’t need to be a wordsmith to craft a heartfelt birthday message. Here are some ideas to get you started:

    • Refer to the relationship, interest, or history you share. For example, "You're the best [sister, friend, boss]," "I hope to keep seeing you on leg day at the gym!" or "I can't wait til our next camping trip."
    • Follow up your reference with a joke, if appropriate. "Those legs aren't gonna grow themselves." Or, "Let's avoid the poison ivy this time."
    • Include a birthday wish. "Have the happiest of birthdays!" and “All the best on your birthday and in the year to come!” are simple and to the point.
    • Sign off with another mention of your relationship. "Your [devoted employee, friend for life, loving sibling]."
