    Learn More About Bumper Stickers

For as long as cars have had bumpers—around the early 1900s—people have used their vehicles for advertising and making personal statements. Back then, bumpers were large metal rails that stuck out far enough to allow room to tie a cardboard sign with rope. While popular, these early bumper signs didn’t stand up well to weather and were rendered pretty useless after a heavy rain.

The mid 1930s saw the invention of the modern-day sticker. These early bumper stickers had bright, fluorescent text and the tourism industry quickly adopted them. Bumper stickers flourished as souvenirs to boast about all the places you and your car had traveled to.

In the 1950s, bumper stickers in the United States became a hotspot for political advertising. Political bumper stickers with slogans and party colors were almost everywhere to build support across the country and are still a common use of bumper stickers today.

Primarily, people use bumper stickers for political advertising, tourism, and making personal statements, but the stickers can also convey useful information to other drivers. You can tell speeders you’re a slow driver and perfectly content at the posted speed, give others a heads-up that you have a baby on board, or that you’re a new driver still learning the roads.

Show off your loyalty to certain causes with cool bumper stickers or work with a seller on Etsy to make your own bumper stickers to advertise your business.

Bumper stickers don’t have to be all business. Funny bumper stickers can show off your sense of humor, like having a family of zombies on the back windshield. Bumper stickers can be as colorful, creative, sentimental, or hilarious as you want them to be. Whatever you choose, stick with it and enjoy the ride.

You can usually remove your bumper sticker by applying heat. Use soapy water to clean the area first before grabbing a hair dryer and warming the sticker. Heat will weaken the adhesive and allow you to peel it off more easily.

Once you remove the sticker, use white distilled vinegar and a cloth to clean off any remaining adhesive residue, or try an adhesive remover product. Wash and dry the surface afterward and apply a layer of car wax for continued protection. You may want to save the sticker as a memory of all the good road trips in your vehicle.
