    Learn More About Party Favors

Party favors originated in the Victorian era as a thank-you to guests who attended extravagant weddings. The favors were typically small sugar candies in ornate bags or boxes. Sugar was expensive at the time, so the gifts were a show of the couple’s wealth and hope for the new union. These gifts were known as bonbonnieres, meaning “good good” in French, and later, bonbon became synonymous with small candies. Party favors have remained popular and are given at children’s birthday parties, festive events, and, of course, weddings.

In the Western world, it’s common to give your bridal party a small gift as a thank-you for their involvement in the wedding. Bridesmaids’ gifts can take the form of something lasting like a personalized necklace or something consumable like a bottle of champagne. Groomsmen’s gifts are similarly chosen, like a set of cufflinks or a personalized flask.

Wedding party favors are given to each of your guests. You may include a favor when you send out your wedding invitations or place one at each guest's seat on the big day.

Few things are as exciting to a child as attending a classmate’s birthday and coming home with a goodie bag. Usually filled with small toys, candy, and wearable accessories, kids’ party favors are often given as children leave the party to end the event on a positive note—because no kiddo wants to stop having fun!

For adults, party favors become more sophisticated. A themed birthday is a perfect place for a party favor, like giving out a sleep mask at a pajama party. For milestone birthdays that go above and beyond, a personalized party favor gives everyone a memento from the celebration.
