Real Irish coin.
Original designs submitted in 1927 Percy Metcalfe presented this hen with five chicks to the committee led by W.B. Yeats. The specifications of all entries were that a coin obverse be a harp and the reverse featuring an animal indigenous to the Irish countryside. Metcalfe also designed coins for the English, Canadian, Egyptian. Iraqi and Australian governments. He studied art in Leeds, London and Paris. His most noted work is the war memorial in bronze for Durban, South Africa. He is also associated with the great seal of England. WOW!
