Pastel drawings : This type of art walks the line between painting and drawing as pastels create a luscious and luminescent finished look—like a painting—but use a process similar to drawing to get there. Pastels mix pigment with a binder, like a stick of chalk and a crayon. Pen and ink illustrations : The key to these illustrations is the special pen used called a dip pen or a reservoir pen—the type you might see medieval kings and knights using to sign their names in the movies, but usually without the feather quill. The technique often uses large and small strokes to create depth and dimension in the image ranging from highly detailed works to thick silhouettes, shadows, and optical illusions. Pencil drawings : Harder than it sounds, pencil drawings require a lot of skill and practice. Most artists use tons of shading and various pressures on the pencil to create mesmerizing work. While always a shade of slate-gray, some drawings may be incredibly photorealistic, while others suggest themes and settings for your mind to interpret the rest. Architectural drawings : The two main styles of these drawings are blueprints and portrait-style images. Blueprints differ as they tend to be more technical and offer a top-down or side-on view of the structure. They might have architectural notes like the distances and sizes of doorways and walls or break the building into an x-ray-like view of each section. Portrait-style drawings might show part of the building, interior or exterior, without any technical details included.

How do you decorate with drawings and illustrations?

Place drawings and illustrations anywhere you’d hang art and collectibles , like your bedroom, living room, or office. You could choose a beautiful charcoal drawing of a landscape to inspire your morning near your coffee machine or hang a gorgeous pastel butterfly over the living room sofa to lighten up the room.
