Tantakuna is a group of women artisans who work together to enhance their quality of life through personal development, financial training and business investment. Tantakuna means “united”, a name that reminds the women that they are not alone because they belong to the same cause. Through Tantakuna’s support, these women improve their situation by obtaining individual training and support with their microenterprises, primarily comprised of handmade
crafts.
All products are handmade by the women in Tantakuna according to traditional indigenous techniques. The knowledge and skills are passed down from generation to generation. This strengthens the family bond and keeps the culture alive.
The women are supported by a multidisciplinary team. Through group and individual work, they learn, advise, and assist each other with problems from domestic violence to child raising. The sale of their products enables them to contribute to family income, improve their living conditions and act as a role model for their family.
Tantakuna was founded in 2006 and is supported by Proyecto Horizonte, an organization south of Cochabamba, Bolivia. To learn more about the women of Tantakuna and Proyecto Horizonte or for information about how to continue supporting them, go to www.proyectohorizonte.org
