Thanks for reading me.
I have a long name so friends call me AL (so may you :-))
I am from a small desert land town of India and have always been mesmerized by leather.
The Creations that it can make, the look, texture, color and even the smell. I just love them all.
The art of making leather articles is passed down to me by my grandfather. He was a very creative but poor man and did hard labor to earn his meager wages even though he used to make journals, diaries, photo albums
for the kings then.
He would always smile at me looking at my fascination for his creations and would say "One day people will care for creativeness and labor and my boy will make masterpieces then"
Well here is the boy walking on his grandfather's steps. I started a workshop where we produce pure leather goods.
As our town is a tourist spot a friendly foreigner customer introduced me to the online world, where i could reach out to to all of you-The craft lovers. I am overwhelmed by the appreciation and try to learn and improvise more from feedback received.
I simply enjoy my work. My work is my leisure.
My grandfather taught me to make articles from rawhide leather.Rawhide is skin color and soft leather
I design all my articles and then cut the rawhide leather into required pieces of different sizes and shapes for my designs.
For Diaries there are plates of designs like mermaid, peacock, elephant etc. These plates are placed below the leather and then it is hammered so that the design gets embossed. Some o the design is hand tooled on leather to create a pattern. Then it is is tinted with dye to get the color and the ends are stitched with leather thong for durability as well as finish. Once the cover is ready. the paper wads need to be stitched with a leather string. Paper can be as per customer requirements for handmade paper, drawing paper, cartridge or deckle paper. The number of pages also depend on customer requirements
If locks are required they are fitted with rivets. Name can be inscribed. The last finish is by a transparent varnish to
give it a shine. For bags again leather pieces are cut to sizes and shapes and stitched according to the design requirement. Zippers and buckles are than placed with stitching and rivets. This leather is a little different than diary leather hence cannot be tinted with any color. It is stained with a natural transparent vegetable dye to give its brown tanned look and for durability. It is than dried out in the sun.

I do have few employees(they keep variating) in my workshop, who do help me with small tasks. I guide them out when we need to cater to wholesale orders.
