The Art Of Kanzashi;

The art of Kanzashi folding was originally introduced to compliment the silk kimonos worn by Geisha's in Japan. Offcuts of silk from the kimonos were folded and stitched to create blossom, or flower like shapes, which were then attached to the hair with hairslides, or combs.

To produce the garments in my shop, I have used the traditional style and technique of Kanzashi to produce modernised, contemporary garments.

However I have decided to approach the garment at a more modern angle.

Instead of silk I use a variety of different patterned fabrics suitable for everyday wear, which are usually quite modern, or retro and funky. I also use glue to compile my garments instead of stitching, as I find it a much faster, and a more reliable medium than hand stitching.
