I carve items out of green wood. Green wood is wood that comes straight from the tree and is not treated or machine dried like wood you find in a shop. I get my wood from foresters that maintain the woods in my region, Limburg (Nl). Normally this wood would be made into wood pulp, or left to rot in the the woods.
I only use an axe, knife and some gouges. No sanding paper, no power tools, Just traditional skills.
The finishing coat is usually linseed oil, an environmentally friendly alternative for varnish. It hardens the wood and is non-allergic and good for eating utensils.
