Questions > Using other selling sites
Gnomead 22.11.2008 20:26Maybe it's a bit cheeky to ask this here but if you have more than one selling site (eg, Dawanda, Etsy, Misi etc) do people list all their stuff on all of them or do you list different things on different sites?
Elksong 23.11.2008 07:50Gnomead, I personally list the same things more or less, here and on etsy...I figure many people aren't looking at all shops and besides, the odds of two people buying the same item from two different shops at the same time seem astronomically long to me...so I guess I'm willing to take my chances!
JoliBebe 23.11.2008 09:32If something is a one of a kind item I don't think it would be a good idea to list it in more than one selling venue at a time. I think this is actually a rule on Etsy, but not sure what the rules regarding this are on DaWanda.
I sell on a few different online venues and have mostly the same stock on all the sites (but not one of a kind items, obviously). I do have some items which are exclusively sold on one site only.
I often sell the same item, but on different sites at the same time, so it's not such a rare thing. These are items which can be reproduced, such as my little shoes etc, so it's fine if the same item sells on two sites at once :-)
milomade 26.11.2008 03:03I'm thinking of trying my luck at folksy as it's UK based and everything is listed in Pounds and Pence.
cozycoleman 26.11.2008 16:14I list here and on Etsy. I only list the things that I can reproduce accurately. One of a kind items, I only list on Etsy because I am more familiar with the venue.
littleclouds 28.11.2008 00:14Your not meant to list an item in more than 1 place incase it sells but what are the chances? In my case it wouldn't matter as nothing I make is 100& OAK, everything to date can be remade & is often in multiples
BeauMonde 29.11.2008 18:26I have my jewellery on 4 other sites and I sell in person at craft shows - there is some overlap of inventory - but I don't worry about it. I don't consider it sold until I receive the money in my Paypal account and I don't consider it sold here on DaWanda just because I receive a purchase order - too many non-payers. I re-listed items here yesterday because I hadn't rec'd the payment and someone else bought them!!
There are no rules that you can't list the same item on more than one selling venue, only that you can't put a link in your shops directing people to buy from you at another site.
Elksong 03.12.2008 07:06jolibebe, I've just finished reading the terms of service & dos and don'ts on Etsy...there is nothing regarding not listing the same item in more than one selling venue and I seriously doubt Dawanda has any such rule, either. Really, that would be ridiculous and perhaps impossible for any online site to enforce.
The day that the same, one of a kind item sells at the same time from two different sites (or from a site and out at a physical show I happen to be doing) is the day I will rethink my choices in listing and put different items everywhere I sell.
JoliBebe 03.12.2008 10:22Elksong, perhaps you misread my post. I didn't say you couldn't list the same item on multiple sites at the same time. Yes that would be silly if a site was trying to enforce that. I was talking about one of a kind items that can not be reproduced. When I first started selling on Etsy (with my other store) several years ago, it was stated in the Etsy Terms of Use that you couldn't list the same one of a kind item on other sites, if you had it listed on Etsy. This was in place to avoid problems or disappointment if an item that was one of kind just happened to sell in two places at once. I guess they have changed it since I last checked, sorry for not keeping up to date with all the rules and regulations.
(This is also stated in the Terms of Use for some other selling venues I use.)
And like I said in my previous post I often sell the exact same item in two or more places at once. Usually to customers in different timezones, so I get up in the morning to see that the same item has been purchased by two or more people while I was asleep (it happened this morning :-). If that item was a one of a kind piece that couldn't be reproduced then I would be in all sorts of bother. I also personally know several people who have listed one of a kind items in several places and the item has sold in two places at the same time, or they forgot to "unlist" the item from their store before taking it to a market/fair, then sold it at the fair, and came home to discover that it also sold online. That's why I said that I didn't think it was a good idea. That's simply my opinion and you're free to do whatever you please :-)
FilomenaDesigns 03.12.2008 22:41I only list an item if I already have it available. Knowing my luck, the item WILL sell in two shops at the same time, I'm not about to tempt fate. If I were a buyer I wouldn't want to be told that the item is not available after I purchase it. Even if I have the materials to make another one, I might forget and use it for a different looking item. Better safe than sorry.
