Forum > Business > Are you from ENGLAND... buy...

I read on one of the German forums that many of the sellers list their items also in English, but have not had good results with buyers from England. I would like to get some feedback from the "Englanders" if you are selling or buying here. If you are selling, whom are you selling to? If you are buying, whom are you buying from? If you are looking but not buying, why are you not buying?

I like your last question....:)
Up until now, I have sold mainly to German buyers but also to French. I have had only one English buyer.
I will say what we all know - unfortunately the English platform is not very strong...

I agree with shefa. I've had about 2-3 sales from England but the bulk of my sales have gone to Germany and France. Anyone know why this is? I know the german and french forums also seem to be alot busier!

So that would maybe lead me to a second question for our "Englanders", does the fact that items are listed in Euros deter you from purchasing since the option to pay in Pounds is not available?

I am English but now live in the US. Most of the sales I make are to Germany, then France, then England/US. There just aren't that many people on the English site. I buy too and it doesn't matter where I buy from, nor what currency it is in. I think it is just down to a critical mass. The German part of Dawanda has been around longer and has many more people registered. The french came next and the English site last. With fewer people, there are less sales.

I am from Glasgow, Scotland, but am living in germany just now. I have posted my items on the English Dawanda and also the German one. I have only had one sale which went to England, and over 100 sales on the German network within 3 months. I think there are a lot of sellers on the English site, especially now the Americans seem to be coming over from etsy. In Germany, we network with each and have dawanda meetings and Dawanda craft fairs etc in our local areas. Maybe you just have to get the word out a bit more.
I've stopped listing now in the english dawanda as my customers are from Germany or Austria. Anyway, I hope that the English site really takes off, as Dawanda is great !

I also have had only one sale to England with the majority of my sales going to Germany, but that is to be expected since I live in Germany. I post on the English forums because I can do that without my husbands help to proof everything that I write. I don't know how long many of the American sellers will stick around because I read recently on one of the Etsy forums that many sellers are very frustrated with Dawanda because of the fees in Euros and also having to pay VAT. But in any case, I would like to see things pick up on this side from English sellers and buyers.

Grüße aus Nord Deutschland.

I just listed my first items a few weeks ago and had two sales both were to German one was a buyer only and the other was a seller as well. I'm thinking about listing in French because I can handle that more than German.

Hello! I'm from England and have come here mainly as a seller (although I will probably end up buying some of the awesome things!).

I think people aren't buying from England because they don't know DaWanda exists, unless they are already networking in the online crafting community. The British equivalent 'Folksy' is getting bits of press here and there, and starting to take off, so maybe if DaWanda gets more publicity over here then there will be more sales, but they would have to let us list in £ - I think a lot of buyers become scared when they see any other currency than £s!

I'm from Canada - and english, I speak no other languages :( ... and I wander / sell Dawanda (if that helps lol) :)

I think most English people have never heard of Dawanda, while the German do know about it.
That may be the reason.

I have been getting the vibe that the other sides of Dawanda - German / French are doing better then the English side of it. Maybe that will change with time :)

I've only started recently but it was a German friend who told me about Dawanda. Nobody has ever mentioned it in England, I think people here are more familiar with Etsy and Folksy.

Hi
Dawanda has had some major advertising campaigns in Germany, being on the television and also in the major newspapers. It would be nice if it took off in Britain too.

Somehow, I am quite glad that my jewellery pleases people from different countries. It is very exciting to send my little packages all around.

I am an English seller. Most of my sales have gone to Germany, and France. I have only sold one item to a buyer in the UK from this site! Very quiet!

do you have twitter accounts? I promote my dawanda articles in my twitter account. It will raise awareness of the site :)

Question! I am living in Spain and presently listing in English only. If I wanted to have a go at listing in German, would that be on a different platform and would I have to pay listing fees?
