Shevlin's Profile
About me
The name SHEVLIN has been synonymous with hat making since 1960 when John's late father started a hat manufacturing company in Malahide.
He followed in the tradition and has designed and made hats for many outlets in Ireland, including A-Wear, Arnotts and The Hat Shop and remains the only blocked hat manufacturer in Ireland. He has exported hats as far away as Japan.
John was commissioned to design and produce the last air hostess hat for Aer Lingus.
He has been showcased on television many times and also in many magazines and newspapers including: Social and Personal & Image, magazines and has made hats for leading Irish couturiers Ib Jorgensen and Thomas Wolfangel.
The famous Irish Senator David Norris commissioned John to restore his ancient boater (used for many years on Bloomsday) which was painstakingly done with strips of straw re-woven to repair the tears and holes.
His Hats have also appeared at "Celebrity Guns & Ammo" Art Exhibition, in The Hive, Dublin, in the summer of 2007 which was a collaboration between the artist Will St. Leger.
John is now concentrating on new designs in felt, straw and various fabrics. His current objective is to design and produce Hats that are unique and handmade to the highest possible standards for the home and export market.
Being a designer and producer in Ireland means he can adapt very easily to customer needs, providing shorter lead times and ever-changing styles.
In Dublin, John's hats can be seen at the Cow's Lane fashion Market, Temple Bar, every Saturday.
