purlsofcolour's Profile
About me
A general creative, writer, crafter, historian and…IT person (yes, that’s the odd one out), I’ve been knitting since I was a child, having learnt the basics from my mother, who showed me to knit 'the other way round' since I am a leftie/southpaw.
I love knitting and natural fibre! My designs start off as an idea – I look at yarn and see an item. I start knitting and write design notes as I go along. Then I decide to add a dash of colour or a different type of yarn to a piece, like a painter adds new colours to a canvass…I love mixing yarns from different places, because it gives every item a different 'story' (this is the writer in me). I even keep a file about where the yarn comes from and when I bought it (once a historian, always a historian!)
No two items of Purls of Colour are ever the same – each is a one of a kind, individual piece. I don't knit in a hurry and don't mass produce. In this, I don’t compromise – each item is allowed the time to grow and develop until I am convinced of its quality and uniqueness. I also create my pieces to beautify many outfits and to last for years to come – they are fashionable, but not throw-away fashion.
You can often find me knitting on Belfast’s public transport, in coffee shops, at meetings, during singing practice, in my (smoke and pet free) home or in our garden (on rain-free moments).
So if you see a knitter on public transport, say hello, since it might be me!

Together with the DaWanda Community, we are creating a unique film, called "Creating Love". What makes it special: Each individual image of the film (frame) has been designed by a different DaWanda user. So in the end, thousands of images are put together to create a colourful, creative and extraordinary film unlike any other. Watch the finished film here! |
