About me

my name is sangit tafelmaier. i was born 1959 in germany and i am a feltmaker. growing up in an artist family my life has always been centered around creating. painting, drawing, sewing and knitting clothes, cooking food - it didn’t matter, it all involved the act of ‘making stuff’.
after many years of trying out lots of things as far as work and art is concerned, including a stint in art therapy, 4 years ago i finally found my ultimate medium and technique: i discovered ‘felt’ and i haven’t stopped since. i am mainly inspired by colours, different textures and australian country/nature. i enjoy it immensely to be able to work with the best of australian wool: beautifully dyed merino wool tops. the wool is often combined with silk or other natural fibers to create interesting surfaces and shades.
a lot of my pieces are wearable: hats, scarves, shawls, vests, jackets and bags. my passion however is to create wall hangings, small sculptures and felted ‘paintings’
