How does selling work?

Everybody who makes handmade products or offers customised and tailor made items can become a seller on DaWanda. To become a seller you need to register first and then to create your shop. To create your shop we ask for more detailed information, such as your address, your payment details, your shop name, and a description about you. You can upload your personal banner and photo to customize your shop. After that you can start to list the items you would like to sell. Please see below for all questions regarding the selling and item listing process.

How much does it cost to sell on DaWanda?

Creating your shop is free. When you sell a product we take 10% commission from the sales value. We do not charge commission on shipping fees. Listing your items is currently free as well but we are planning to introduce a small listing fee per item in the future. We have not decided upon the date yet - we are planning to introduce such fees once DaWanda has reached a certain size and number of buyers. The intention behind listing fees is to assure quality on the site, and guarantee commitment from DaWanda sellers. We guarantee that we will inform you about such fees at least 4 weeks in advance and that you can decide whether you are willing to pay such fees or not. We have also not yet decided about the amount per item listed but we are definitely aiming for a very low and competitive rate.

Who can become a seller?

DaWanda is a market place for unique, handmade and customisable products. If you are producing such things, if you are an artist, a designer, a craft maker or part of a small family run business you can become a seller on DaWanda. It is no problem to sell on DaWanda if you are not from Europe – just bear in mind that DaWanda operates in Euros, so you should adjust your item prices accordingly. You also need to be able to provide a valid payment method for your buyers (e.g. PayPal). Please note that we do not allow people under the age of 18 to buy or sell.

Which products can be sold on DaWanda?

You are welcome to sell everything that is unique, customisable and/or handmade. DaWanda is not limited in product categories, it can be anything from furniture, jewellery, digital art, clothes, music, art, toys, etc. as long as the things you offer are not mass-produced. We call it products with love. You can offer products which are designed and created by you, but also products designed and created by others, as long as they are still handmade products, and as long as you state clearly that you are a 'reseller' of these products. You can also sell crafting supplies (in the 'Supplies' category only), and high-quality vintage items (in the 'Vintage' category only).

Take a look at our Terms & Conditions and Guidelines for selling to see whether your products are permitted on our platform. If you are still unsure about whether you can sell a certain product, please do not hesitate to contact us.

What is a DaWanda Shop?

Every seller has their own shop on DaWanda with an individual URL. When creating a shop you can decide on the name displayed in the URL, e.g. https://yourname.dawanda.com. You can share this link with anybody whom you would like to show your items. Any item listed by you will automatically be displayed and listed in your shop. When filling in your shop profile, you may only enter your contact email address in the Business Contact Details section.

How do I list items?

Once you have created your shop you can start to list and sell your items. There are different ways to list items. Simply click "Sell" at the top of the page. You are taken to the listing page where you enter the title and description of the item you want to sell as well as its price, shipping fees and the payment methods you accept. We also ask you to enter tags for the material, method of fabrication and general tags. Tags are important as they help potential buyers to find your products. In the next step you can upload up to 4 images for your item. To save time if you want to list items that are similar you can use one of your already listed items as a template for new items. It is also possible to reach by page by clicking through My DaWanda > Products & Shop > Create a new listing.

How do I add pictures?

This is step 3 as part of the item listing process above. You can upload images of any size, images will automatically be resized so that they fit in the DaWanda frames. The file size of the image should be no more than 2MB. You can upload the following file types: GIF, JPEG (and JPG) and PNG. We recommend using an image format in the ratio 4:3 (i.e. for example 800x600 pixel), to display your items in the best way possible.

How long do items remain listed?

Items on DaWanda are listed for a period of 120 days. When you list an item, you can choose to have it relisted automatically once this period has ended. Otherwise, you can manually relist an item once its listing has ended. When a product is sold, the listing for that product automatically ends. To unlist an item go to My DaWanda > Products & Shop > Active Listings, then tick the box for the product you wish to unlist and click "end listing".

In which countries can I sell?

You can decide in which countries you wish to sell by indicating if you want to ship within your country or internationally. In order to sell items successfully to people in other countries it does make sense to describe your item in different languages. When you list a new item you can create your item in additional languages. If you are not so multilingual try asking in the forums for help, perhaps you can help with English translations in return.
We offer you a wide range of options of different regions and countries which you can choose to ship to, or not, which are customisable for each item in your shop

How do shipping costs work?

When listing an item we ask you to indicate the shipping costs related to the item. However, shipping fees vary depending on the number of items ordered. That is why you need to confirm the total costs including shipping fees after a buyer has purchased something from you.
We also give you the option to specify a lower shipping cost when more than one item is purchased at once (the Combined Shipping cost – see below for more details). Plus you are able to create ‘shipping profiles’, to easily assign different shipping settings to different types of item in your shop.

Which payment methods can I accept on DaWanda?

We offer you the options of Cash, Cash on Delivery, PayPal or Bank Transfer. You can specify which payment methods you accept by clicking through My DaWanda > Products & Shop > Edit my Shop. Please consider all the pros and cons carefully when you make your choice. For example, if you are in Europe then it is quick and usually free of charge to offer bank transfers to your customers. But if you are outside of Europe, then you may have problems with this method, and it would be better to choose PayPal. Customers may also choose to pay you with DaWanda Vouchers – visit our Voucher FAQ for more information on how this works.

What is PayPal and how does it work?

PayPal is an online service which allows payments and money transfers to be made quickly, easily and safely through the internet – all you need is a bank account and an email address to get started. It is widely available in a large number of countries across the world. You can find out more about PayPal and register for a free account at https://www.paypal.com. Once you have a PayPal account, all you need to do to set up PayPal as a payment method is click through My DaWanda > Products & Shop > Edit my Shop. Scroll down to the payment methods section, select PayPal, and enter the email address which you used to register at PayPal.

Geef je koper of verkoper hier a.u.b. een waardering. Kies het aantal sterren uit en schrijf een commentaar. Vijf sterren is de hoogste waardering.

How do I view all my items, sold items, etc.?

Go to My DaWanda > Products & Shop, and then select whether you’d like to view active listings, paused listings, ended listings, draft listings and sold products. You can also see related information for your items, such as views, pins etc. (Tick the box and click "Show statistics"). You can then easily edit items from these pages.

What happens when I sell an item?

When you sell an item we send you a notification containing a link to the order information on DaWanda. You then need to confirm this order online - otherwise the buyer cannot make the payment because when you confirm, an automatic message goes to your buyer with your payment information. Please make sure you have filled in your PayPal address (if based in the US) and/or bank information (if based in Europe) in your profile. Once you've confirmed, the buyer will transfer the money to you and you can ship the item(s). Please do not forget to give feedback about the buyer once the transaction is closed. The item's quantity is automatically reduced by the number that was sold. You can view all orders at My DaWanda > My Orders, and you can also mark your orders as paid, sold, etc.

The buyer didn’t send me the payment, what can I do?

Please check first that you have confirmed the order. You can do so at My DaWanda > My Orders. If you have confirmed the order, please liase with the buyer first to see why the paymnt hasn't arrived. You can do so by leaving them a message on the order history page. Then double check if you have filled in your PayPal address (if based in the US) and/or bank information (if based in Europe). Once 7 days have passed since the order was made, and you have not received payment, then you will see a link on the order page, allowing you to send an official payment reminder to the buyer from DaWanda, on your behalf (see below for more info). Please wait for 7 days after you have sent a payment reminder to receive payment. If you still have not received payment after this time, please notify us, and we will cancel the order for you: just send an email to [email protected]

Am I allowed to sell Vintage items?

It's no problem to sell vintage products on DaWanda, in our main category 'Vintage'. Please note that on DaWanda, an item is only considered 'vintage' if it is at least 20 years old. We will also only accept items of very high-quality, both in design and condition, with excellent, detailed photographs to illustrate them.

What are active, paused, and ended listings?

An Active listing has been paid for, it is within the 120 day listing duration period and there are items available in stock.

A Paused listing is within the 120 day listing duration and there are items in stock. You can manually Pause a listing (in the case of having a stall at a market for example). You do not pay any extra fee to reactivate a Paused listing. Please note the listing duration will continue to run out while the listing is Paused. You can continue to edit your listing while it is Paused.

An Ended listing has sold out, the 120 day listing duration has run out or you have Ended it manually. You can reactivate an Ended listing by increasing the number of stock and paying the listing fee. [You can continue to edit your listing while it is Ended. Price may be edited to any amount]

How does a payment reminder work?

You can send a payment reminder E-Mail to a buyer with just one click.
On the overview page for your open orders, you will see a link underneath every order which
  • was confirmed at least 7 days ago by you
  • has still not been marked as 'paid' by you
Please note, you can only send one payment reminder per order using this method.

  • How do I get started selling products?

Make sure you pick the right category for each product. This will help buyers find your products more easily.

Enter a detailed and informative product description for each product, e.g. with details of how it was made, which occasions it could be suitable for, highlighting any features buyers might particularly like.

Be sure to have clear, bright, attractive photos to illustrate each item.

Choose an appropriate, competitive price which buyers will find attractive, but which does not undervalue your item.

How can I get my product listings looking their best?

Make sure you have the best possible quality photos to go with your items.

Your items should be brightly lit (with no shadows across them).

Photograph your items against a plain, light coloured background to really make them stand out.

Try to take a few photos of the product from different angles, or use photos of different parts of the item.

If your product could be worn by a model, then get a friend to wear it in a photo, to show your customers how the item could look on them.

How can I draw more attention to my DaWanda shop?

Use DaWanda banners and teasers on your personal website to let your visitors know all about us.

You can use the DaWanda Widget to link to your shop and show off your products on your own website or blog.

Post in the forums and introduce yourself to other members so that they can check out your creations and give you feedback.

    What does Combined Shipping mean?

With Combined Shipping, you can easily offer a shipping discount to a buyer when they purchase more than one item at once from your shop.

Just make sure you have indicated a Combined Shipping price as well as a normal Single Shipping price. The Combined Shipping price should never be greater than or equal to the Single Shipping price you have given. When you don't want to offer a shipping discount, then just leave the field blank.

The Combined Shipping price can be calculated in the following way:
If a buyer has more than one article from your shop in their shopping basket, then you should firstly charge the Single Shipping price for the item which has the highest total Single plus Combined Shipping cost. For all other articles in the basket, charge the Combined Shipping price. If you have not indicated a combined shipping price, then just charge the Single Shipping price.

An example: A buyer has the following items from your shop in their shopping basket:
    • 1 Button; Single Shipping price 1 EUR, Combined Shipping price 0.00 EUR
    • 1 Dress; Single Shipping price 7 EUR, Combined Shipping price 5 EUR
    • 1 Scarf; Single Shipping price 3 EUR, no Combined Shipping price indicated
So the total shipping costs are calculated in the following way:
    • The dress has the highest total shipping cost (Single plus Combined: 7 + 5 EUR), so you should charge the Single Shipping price of 7 EUR
    • You have indicated a Combined Shipping price of 0.00 EUR for the button
    • You haven't provided a Combined Shipping cost for the scarf, so you charge the Single Shipping price of 3 EUR So then the total shipping cost becomes 10 EUR (11 EUR without the Combined Shipping discount).
Another example: A buyer has the following in their shopping basket:
    • 1 bag; Single Shipping price 3 EUR, Combined Shipping price 2 EUR
    • 1 skirt; Single Shipping price 3.00 EUR, no Combined Shipping price
    • 2 shirts; Single Shipping price 2.50 EUR, Combined Shipping price 2 EUR
So the shipping costs are worked out as follows:
    • The skirt has the highest total shipping cost (6 EUR - if no Combined Shipping price is indicated, it is assumed that this is the same as the Single Shipping price, so 3 EUR + 3 EUR = 6 EUR). So you charge the Single Shipping cost of 3 EUR.
    • Then you charge the Combined Shipping price of 2 EUR for the bag.
    • And then you add the Combined Shipping price of each shirt (2 x 2 EUR = 4 EUR)
So then the total shipping cost becomes 9 EUR (or 11 EUR without Combined Shipping discount).

You can use this as a great way of promoting your products, letting customers know that they can receive a Combined Shipping discount if they buy more than one item from your shop.
Buyers will see the reduced shipping costs during the purchasing process.

How are products/shops chosen for the front page and for special collections?

At the moment the decision regarding which products and shops are featured on the front page and in special collections is strictly editorial. We look for products with clear, bright photos, and shops which are well-stocked and cared for. In the future we may offer advertising tools for you to purchase feature-space on the front and category stages, but the date for introducing these features has not yet been decided. But we’ll be sure to inform you about them well in advance!
