    Learn More About Men's Socks

Types of men’s socks vary, depending on size, length, function, and style. Whether you want a snazzy dress sock to go with your suit or some extra support for your morning run, each sock type has different elements to help you look and feel your best:

    • Men’s ankle socks fit a low profile and are barely visible above your shoe—if at all. Many people pair ankle socks with shorts to cool off in the summer months.
    • Men’s crew socks rise above the shoe line and tend to be a little thicker than a dress sock. They often sport funky designs and patterns, plus elastic to keep them up.
    • Men’s dress socks are thin and rise high on the shin to cover any skin peeking out from under your pants. They’re light and relatively unnoticeable despite their length.
    • Men’s slipper socks wrap your feet in warm materials and grippy bottoms. Ideal for bedtime, slipper socks keep you and your feet snug while you get in some evening reading and drift off to sleep.
    • Men’s athletic socks typically fit tightly with elastic around the ankle, though some rise higher or even fit over shin guards. Others have elastic sections around the bridge of the foot to help with circulation or offer extra heel padding to soften impact when you’re running. They often feature moisture-wicking materials to keep your feet and footwear dry and free of odor.
    • Men’s thermal socks are the big warm hug your feet didn’t know they needed. Made from cozy materials such as wool and merino wool, thermal socks keep your feet warm outdoors during winter activities and indoors on chilly floors.

Many people don’t consider material when purchasing socks and opt for a specific style or color instead. The wisest sock wearers, however, choose material that fits their needs, including comfort, style, and purpose:

    • Cotton socks are your go-to everyday socks. They’re designed to go wherever your feet take you.
    • Polyester socks hold their shape and dry incredibly fast. Stains are no match for polyester, but a regular wash will prevent odors and other ick from accumulating.
    • Bamboo socks are the choice of pandas and sock-savvy aficionados. They’re made from bamboo pulp that’s refined into a soft, lightweight, thermo-regulating wonder sock. Bamboo socks are often antimicrobial and do it all, from wicking away moisture to remaining breathable with natural stretch.
    • Wool socks tackle cold weather while you scrape off your windshield and wait for the car to warm up. Consider these thick socks for lounging around the house on casual snowy days.
    • Merino wool socks differ from regular wool because they’re made from a particular breed of sheep’s wool. Merino sheep produce soft wool that wicks sweat away from your feet and regulates temperature in both hot and cold conditions.
    • Nylon socks are a versatile synthetic material with some stretch. Nylon is very durable, so even if they’re your everyday choice, you’re likely to get many miles out of them.
