In 2011, I moved away from the hustle and bustle of the big city and back to my native small Province. Here I started to run our guesthouse with the aim of living as close as possible to nature. I researched how to make quality natural products to serve our increasingly numerous guests from all corners of the world, while avoiding certain harmful ingredients. With my new lifestyle, I preferred organic plants, herbs and even natural cosmetics to treat and prevent my chronic allergy. For my very first batch of natural soap and shampoo, I combined herbs as well as other botanicals from our garden with coconut, olive, palm and rice bran oils. The result was astonishing! I continued developing herbal soap recipes to serve our guests, who loved them and asked if they could purchase soap as a souvenir. And so my soap business was born…
Washing our hands without palm oil
One day, a guest from Switzerland (Who now is my husband!) asked me if I also had soap without palm oil. “Of couse not!” was my bewildered answer, as all my soap contained palm oil. The Swiss guest left the next day without buying any of my soap... Yet the term "palm oil-free" increasingly intrigued me and so I did a little more research to find some answers.
Today, the line of our entirely palm oil-free products is our modest contribution to preserving the rainforests of South-East Asia and its unique wildlife. (One has only to think of the yearly smog crisis across South-East Asia, due to the devastating slash-and-burn practices for the cultivation of oil palm trees.)
So here is my new line of sustainable soap. Coconut trees that produce milk and oil, especially extra virgin coconut oil. This oil of the finest quality has numerous benefits to the skin and hair as well. This is why I now use it as the main ingredient for our soap and shampoo bars along with other oils containing organic herbs and botanical.
I hope you will enjoy my soap as we do here.
